Once more, Game Science, the developer behind Black Myth: Wukong, has clarified that the lack of Xbox Series S optimization is the real reason behind the game’s unintentional PS5 exclusivity. Despite this, several major publications persist in circulating a curious rumor that Sony struck a “secret” exclusivity deal for Black Myth: Wukong—a notion that some ambiguous statements from Microsoft have seemingly fueled. But really, those reports don’t add up at all.
Feng Ji, the director of Black Myth: Wukong, recently took to Weibo, a popular social media platform in China, to express his thoughts on the game winning the prestigious Game of the Year 2024 award at the Steam Awards, as reported on ResetEra. During his reflection on the studio’s successes, he expressed disappointment over the absence of an Xbox version.
“It feels a bit off, but with that 10GB shared memory and without a few years of optimization experience…” Feng Ji commented, referring to the limitations posed by the Xbox Series S memory.
Interestingly, Microsoft has publicly stated that they are unaware of any optimization issues with Black Myth: Wukong on the Series S. “While we prefer not to comment on the arrangements between our partners and other platforms, we can confirm that the delay is not attributed to Xbox platform limitations that have been raised to us,” they shared with Forbes.
So, let’s finally lay this rumor to rest. It’s clear there’s no truth to these exclusivity claims.
