Warner Bros appears to have pulled the plug on a planned expansion for “Hogwarts Legacy.” According to Bloomberg, this expansion was supposed to debut alongside a “Definitive Edition” of the popular Harry Potter action RPG, promising to introduce fresh storylines into the mix.
The decision to cancel seems to stem from concerns that there wasn’t enough content in the expansion to justify the projected price tag. The development task was shared between the original developers, Avalanche Software, and Rocksteady. Despite this setback, Avalanche is reportedly forging ahead with a sequel to the Hogwarts student adventure.
Meanwhile, Rocksteady has been making headlines for less favorable reasons, including some layoffs following their decision to cease support for “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” which is slated for a 2024 release.
Warner Bros has been facing challenges in its gaming division, having admitted last year that the sector was not meeting expectations. The company absorbed a substantial financial hit, writing off $200 million related to the “Suicide Squad” title. In recent times, they’ve shuttered three studios, including Monolith, and witnessed the departure of their long-serving leader, David Haddad.
