Yet another imitator of the Vision Pro is attempting to make its mark, and this newcomer is embracing the ‘Vision’ moniker in its title.
Although not as well-known globally, China’s Vivo has carved out a solid reputation in the tech world, primarily for its reliable and affordably priced smartphones. This prominence has placed Vivo comfortably within the top five smartphone manufacturers in terms of market share.
Today, at the Boao Forum for Asia held in China’s Hainan Province, Vivo unveiled its exciting new venture into the realm of extended reality (XR): the Vivo Vision.
In a recently released statement, Vivo highlighted this advancement as part of their broader strategy to innovate in both robotics and XR technologies. They describe the debut of Vivo Vision as a "significant milestone" in their journey exploring mixed reality.
While details about Vivo Vision remain sparse with an official reveal slated for mid-2025, there’s much speculation and intrigue. Questions loom about the headset’s specifications, operating system, and more—truly, most details are still under wraps.
At the Boao Forum for Asia, a prototype was showcased at Vivo’s booth. Observers noted striking similarities to the Apple Vision Pro, especially its distinctive head strap, digital crown button, and the external battery that connects magnetically.
Vivo smartphones typically run customized Android versions, with Funtouch OS designed for international users and Origin OS tailored for devices sold in China.
As Vivo enters the XR device landscape, they might opt to integrate Google’s upcoming Android XR OS. This new system is also anticipated for Samsung’s mixed reality initiative, known as ‘Project Moohan’, rumored to make its debut later this year, though that’s speculative at this point.
This development emphasizes an emerging trend of Vision Pro look-alikes produced by Chinese manufacturers. Earlier this year, Play for Dream made waves with their MR headset at CES 2025, earning accolades from former Quest engineer Amanda Watson, who hailed it as “absolutely the best all-around HMD demo I saw on the floor today.”
