Earlier this week, Steel Wool Studios revealed the much-anticipated release date for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic, hitting the shelves for PS5 and PC on June 13th. Interestingly, though the game was initially showcased with PSVR 2 support, any mention of this has recently vanished, sparking curiosity among fans.
Originally, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic made its debut with a playable demo on PSVR 2 at PAX West 2024. This initial display led many to believe that the game would offer both VR and standard screen experiences, a hybrid approach that Steel Wool Studios is known for.
Since its inception in 2012, Steel Wool Studios has carved a niche for itself in VR gaming, particularly after receiving an early $5 million investment from HTC in 2016. The studio has delivered several noted VR games, including Hello Neighbor Search and Rescue (2023), FNAF: Help Wanted (2019), and its sequel FNAF: Help Wanted 2 (2024).
However, with the recent release date announcement for FNAF’s latest installment, all references to PSVR 2 support have been scrubbed from marketing materials. A quick check of the FNAF: Secret of the Mimic PlayStation Store page shows no sign of VR support, even though archived versions indicate it was once included.
The only recent hint of PSVR 2 capability came from an official PlayStation post back on February 12th when the release date was first revealed. This post has since disappeared, leaving fans in the dark regarding VR options.
As of now, Steel Wool Studios has remained silent on the prospects of PSVR 2 support, and questions linger about whether the game’s PC versions on the Epic Games Store and Steam will feature VR enhancements. We’ve reached out to the studio for clarification, but are yet to hear back. We’ll provide updates if more information surfaces, particularly if this is just a delay for the VR mode or a part of a strategic release plan.
