Virtuix is gearing up to take virtual reality enthusiasts on a globetrotting adventure with the release of TREKS, a brand-new immersive tourism app designed for their Omni One VR treadmill. This app promises to transport you to some of the planet’s most renowned landmarks right from the comfort of your living room.
Scheduled for release on March 6th, TREKS syncs real-world videos with the walking experience, allowing users to explore majestic locations like the Grand Canyon, stroll through New York’s bustling Central Park, or delve into the historic corridors of Riyadh’s Fort Masmak. Brought to you by Virtuix Studios, the app will be taking its debut bow on the Omni One Game Store with a price tag of $30.
At launch, players can look forward to exploring four breathtaking sites:
- Grand Canyon: Meander along trails and take in the awe-inspiring views over its dramatic cliffs.
- Niagara Falls: Witness the sheer power and beauty of the falls from vantage points on both the American and Canadian sides.
- New York City: Experience the city’s iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saudi Arabia: Step into the historical ambiance of Fort Masmak and admire the stunning grandeur of Al Rajhi Mosque.
Virtuix Studios isn’t stopping with just these locations, as they have plans to roll out additional places as downloadable content (DLC) in the months ahead. These updates are expected to feature more landmarks, historical treasures, and natural splendors. Plus, the company has highlighted an added bonus: a solid hour spent walking in TREKS could burn around 500 calories—a win-win for fitness buffs.
“TREKS isn’t about passively viewing these destinations; you’re actively moving through them,” explains Jan Goetgeluk, CEO of Virtuix. “It’s an exciting fusion of fitness and exploration, offering an unprecedented way to enjoy iconic places worldwide.”
Priced at $3,495, the Omni One setup includes the VR treadmill itself and a customized Pico 4 Enterprise headset. The system is versatile, supporting both native apps through its internal chipset and offering connectivity to a VR-ready PC either through a wired or wireless connection.
Virtuix recently broadened its gaming universe by announcing over 55 supported titles, with new gems like Arizona Sunshine Remake, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Into The Radius. Additionally, the Omni One is compatible with SteamVR games, thanks to its Omni Connect PC Driver. This feature allows you to tailor game controls and settings, enhancing titles not initially designed for immersive walking experiences.
