Last summer, Electronic Arts (EA) took gamers by surprise by announcing that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor would extend its availability to last-gen consoles, having originally been exclusive to the current generation. With the game’s launch on PS4 and Xbox One just around the corner on September 17, Respawn Entertainment and EA have unveiled some juicy insights and gameplay footage to whet our appetites.
Back in 2023, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor made its debut on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. As the sequel to the 2019 hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it plunged players back into the gripping saga of ex-Jedi Cal Kestis and his unlikely allies battling the Empire. The game was a smash hit, garnering several accolades and heaps of praise. Now, we’re finally treated to a sneak peek of how it performs on the PS4 Pro.
EA sent over about five minutes of gameplay footage showing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor running on the PS4 Pro. The clips showcase various combat scenarios and exploration moments. I must say, I’m genuinely impressed with how seamlessly this last-gen port operates.
That said, adapting the game to run on PS4 Pro and other older systems wasn’t a walk in the park, and there are a few compromises compared to the snazzy current-gen editions. The most noticeable is the framerate. Respawn confirms that the PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X versions of Survivor run at 30FPS without a 60FPS option.
Here’s the official performance breakdown for each device as provided by EA and Respawn:
– 1080p at 30FPS on PS4 Pro
– 1440p at 30FPS on Xbox One X
– 900p at 30FPS for PS4
– 720p at 30FPS on Xbox One
These target benchmarks are quite reasonable, given the age and capability of these consoles. Nonetheless, I’d advise steering clear of the Xbox One port of Survivor, as even at 1080p, the game’s breathtaking visuals deserve better than the 720p/30FPS offering, which could undermine the otherwise stellar Star Wars experience.
Mark your calendars—Star Wars Jedi: Survivor hits PS4 and Xbox One on September 17, available at a more wallet-friendly price of just $50.
