Ever since the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 was announced, it feels like the floodgates have opened for Xbox games to make their way onto Sony’s platform. The rumor mill has been abuzz lately with whispers that Marcus Fenix, the iconic protagonist of the Gears of War series, might soon be battling the Locust Horde on PlayStation consoles. Interestingly, the latest speculation points to a collection featuring the first three Gears of War games launching on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
### A Gears of War Collection Is Rumored to Be Coming to PS5
According to eXtas1s, a well-known leaker, a Gears of War collection is allegedly in the pipeline. While there’s no certainty about the announcement timing, they believe it will be available on multiple platforms from day one. Intriguingly, it’s said the collection will support cross-play, allowing gamers on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation to dive into the action together.
“I can talk about Gears Collection because [the] Gears Collection has cost me a lot to corroborate its existence, but it seems that it exists, and I can confirm that at the moment in which Gears Collection is announced, which I don’t know when it will be, but it will be announced as multiplatform day one,” eXtas1s shared, translated by a ResetEra member named Rychu. “I repeat again. When these kinds of remasters are announced, remasters of the old Gears games are going to be able to be cross-platform [allowing players to] play simultaneously. The only thing I haven’t been able to confirm is the launch of a Switch version, but it can be played cross-platform on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.”
This isn’t the first time the idea of Gears of War landing on PS5 has surfaced. Just earlier this month, Jez Corden from Windows Central hinted that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might make an appearance on Sony’s console by 2025.
Of course, as with any rumor, it’s wise to take this with some skepticism. Although many insiders and leakers seem to be echoing each other, the gaming industry is dynamic and plans can shift unexpectedly. Until there’s an official announcement, we’ll have to remain patient and hopeful.
