Glover, a creation of Interactive Studios, also known as Piko Interactive and QUByte Interactive, is making its way to the Nintendo Switch. This beloved classic 3D puzzle platformer first launched in 1998 on the Nintendo 64, followed by a release on the original PlayStation the next year under the Atari Interactive label. Now, in 2025, the game returns as part of the QUByte Classic series, inviting both new players and long-time fans to explore the enchanting world of Glover once again.
Interactive Studios, or Blitz Games as they were once known, was founded in 1990 by the Oliver Twins, Andrew and Philip. They’re perhaps best known for their work on the Dizzy series. In Glover, players will take on the role of the eponymous character as they traverse a variety of imaginative levels, guiding a ball from start to finish while solving intriguing puzzles.
The adventure is set in the magical Crystal Kingdom, where players must recover lost crystals scattered after a wizard’s experiment goes awry. Our charming protagonist, Glover, is among the magical gloves assisting the wizard, but the mishap also leads to the corruption of his counterpart, Glovel, which morphs into the malevolent Cross-Stitch. Glover cleverly transforms the crystals into bouncy rubber balls to prevent their destruction, setting the stage for a whimsical journey.
Throughout the game, players will explore six unique worlds: Atlantis, Carnival, Pirates, Prehistoric, Fortress of Fear, and Out of This World. On top of completing each level, collecting Garibs, and tackling bonus stages is key for those aiming for 100% completion.
Taking control of Glover is intuitive, with the left analog stick for movement and the right for camera adjustments. The game offers a variety of actions: zoom with the X button, jump and double jump using A, and dribble the ball by pressing B. There’s also the ground pound maneuver, activated with ZR, and the ability to stand on the ball with L. Players can throw the ball by holding B or slap it to leap wider gaps using A. The R button lets you switch ball forms, each serving its unique purpose throughout the game, starting with the versatile rubber ball.
Glover’s quirky adventure continues to charm with its nostalgic appeal and creative level design. Even after conquering its challenges, the game invites exploration of its Extras section, revealing concept art, character designs, and enemy sketches. It’s available on the Nintendo Switch for $19.99, offering a comforting throwback for gaming enthusiasts.
In summary, Glover stands as a testament to classic 3D platforming, finding its place on modern consoles through a delightful blend of nostalgia and new adventures. Whether you’re revisiting the Crystal Kingdom or embarking on this quest for the first time, Glover’s world offers a playful and captivating journey that remains true to its roots while inviting fresh players to the fold.
