One of the creative minds behind Undermine(d) joins our conversation about the newest chapter in World of Warcraft. Step into this fresh, vibrant goblin city—a place unlike any other in Azeroth—where the streets are alive and designed for speed. Discover how you can zoom through town in brand-new hot rods.
Picture New York City infused with a steampunk twist, where caution is thrown to the wind. That’s the vibe as you enter Undermine, a newly launched zone in World of Warcraft. As someone who played a major role in bringing this city to life alongside my talented teammates on the WoW team, I can’t wait to share more about this unique goblin metropolis and its thrilling rideable vehicles.
### Deep Dive, Then D.R.I.V.E.
The latest update adds an exciting edge to World of Warcraft with the introduction of the D.R.I.V.E. feature. If you’re wondering, yes, that stands for Dynamic and Revolutionary Improvement to Vehicular Experiences. It’s a mouthful, but it’s totally worth it!
This feature lets you cruise around in the G-99 Breakneck, our fun take on a hot rod. You’ll unlock this beauty early in your adventures—just finish the “Eyes from Above” quest in the main campaign, then grab “No More Walkin’ Here” to learn the ropes of the Breakneck.
The design of these vehicles captures World of Warcraft’s goblin style—with everything seeming cobbled together, yet somehow it works. The G-99 Breakneck sports some pretty flashy features, like giant flames shooting out from its engine, which fits perfectly within Undermine’s chaotic streets.
One of our key goals was incorporating the ability to drift, drawing inspiration from classic racing games. It was a challenge to bring this feature into the WoW world, but it sparked excitement for everyone involved. We wanted to capture that rush of freedom and control, similar to getting your first car.
The Breakneck isn’t just for solo rides, though. You can also use it as a passenger mount to explore Undermine with friends. Participate in races to test your skills or just enjoy the scenery. If the speed isn’t your thing, no worries—we’ve added options for a more manageable pace with a slower engine mod or standard ground mounts, whichever suits you.
### Take to the Streets
Undermine’s streets are bustling with life, and you’re invited to join the action. You’ll find yourself racing amidst this colorful backdrop or engaging in quirky tasks like delivering hot towels, or even taking on a ghostly tiger scaring the neighborhood kids.
As you rev your engine around the bustling streets (and above sewers housing fighting rings!), you’ll encounter pirates, mobsters, ankle-breaking duels, world-class chefs, and much more.
Undermine is alive with energy, serving as a cultural and commercial hub for goblins. It’s a big departure from traditional WoW cities, packed with life and showing its wear from everyday activities.
The city itself is a marvel of what’s possible. With remarkable places like Slam Central Station—where you can travel anywhere you can dream of—Undermine showcases goblin flair for invention and growth. You’ll find cleverly named spots like the Incontinental Hotel and the Gallagio, highlighting a society with its eyes on expansion.
The story of Undermine revolves around self-improvement. It ties seamlessly with the main plot of The War Within, introducing players to areas like the Ringing Deeps through engaging characters such as Orweyna. You’ll encounter familiar names like Renzik and Gazlowe, offering insights into life in Undermine. Where Gazlowe once sought something new, many call Undermine home, for better or worse.
As the narrative progresses, we see Gazlowe experience a change of heart, leading a revolution that empowers players to dismantle oppressive regimes. This tale of reclaiming the city underscores the strength of the people when united against adversity.
Join us in Undermine—a city of fast-paced fun and shadowy deals. Whether you drift a little or a lot, it’s the thrill of the drift that counts!
