Pico 4 Ultra is making waves with its Black Friday bundle from ByteDance, offering Pico Motion Trackers, three exciting games, and a month-long VRChat Plus subscription.
The games included are “Blade & Sorcery: Nomad,” “Pistol Whip,” and “Synth Riders.” Act swiftly, as this deal wraps up on December 2.
With Pico Motion Trackers, which typically set you back €90/£80, you can strap them onto your ankles to unlock leg-tracking capabilities in compatible games. This includes titles like “Blade & Sorcery: Nomad” and “VRChat.” Meta has stated they won’t pursue similar trackers unless they become overwhelmingly popular.
This bundle is available in all regions where the Pico 4 Ultra is sold—though North America is still missing from the list.
We’ve taken the Pico 4 Ultra and its Motion Trackers for a spin to see how they stack up against the Meta Quest 3. Here’s the scoop.
For those able to get their hands on it, ByteDance is marketing the Pico 4 Ultra as a premium alternative to the Meta Quest 3. It boasts an additional 4GB of RAM, and its passthrough resolution is higher. Plus, this headset charges quicker and its battery lasts longer.
In our experience, we found it to be a comfy headset. Its passthrough quality has advantages over the Quest 3 in certain aspects but falls short in others. The lenses are a mixed bag—outshining the Quest 3S but trailing behind the Quest 3.
When it comes to content, there’s been a shift. ByteDance appears less focused on VR gaming compared to when they launched the Pico 4. They’ve shelved a project aimed at rivaling “Beat Saber”, passed their exclusive “Just Dance VR” to Meta, and haven’t released any major exclusives. While many Quest games are available on the Pico Store, the lack of certain titles is noteworthy. ByteDance’s current aim seems to be crafting Pico OS into a leading spatial computing platform, potentially gearing up for an Apple Vision Pro rival.
Nonetheless, if you’re eyeing the Pico 4 Ultra, this Black Friday offer is hard to beat. The leg-tracking feature via Pico Motion Trackers is something you won’t find on Meta’s standalone devices.
