Hunters, it’s the dawn of 2025, and Monster Hunter Wilds is on the horizon. We’ve got some exciting updates, including a fresh trailer and details about the upcoming second open beta test (OBT2). Let’s dive in!
First off, let’s break down the highlights from the newest trailer.
The trailer introduces us to the Iceshard Cliffs, a newly unveiled area. This icy landscape is where our hunters, along with the Expedition Team, will find themselves battling the elements and the monsters that roam these frigid terrains. Thick blizzards and chilling winds characterize the Iceshard Cliffs, a locale teeming with life forms that have adapted to survive the harsh conditions.
Within this frozen world, you’ll encounter Wudwud, a peculiar creature far from its native haunt. This wandering Wudwud is sure to add some unique interactions to your adventures in the snow.
As for the Iceshard Cliffs’ monstrous inhabitants, let’s talk about Hirabami, a unique leviathan with formidable claws and a neck membrane that enables it to skim the icy air. The trailer hints at a mysterious large creature that attacks a group of Hirabami, raising the stakes and excitement.
Also returning for another round is Nerscylla, a Temnoceran known for its deadly horn strike. We see it attempting to trap and prey on Gypceros, a dynamic that promises thrilling battles. Lastly, the foreboding presence of Gore Magala is revealed, launching a dramatic assault on Fabius and the Expedition Team, leaving us questioning the dangers it will bring in the full game.
Moving on to the new storyline developments, the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds, the enigmatic Arkveld, looms large. The trailer sheds more light on its mysterious nature and its motives, urging players to uncover the role Arkveld plays in this captivating tale.
Mark your calendars for the second open beta tests: February 6th to 9th and February 13th to 16th. Pre-loads begin on February 5th, so get ready! Both sessions will offer the same content as November’s beta, including Character Creation, Story Trial, and a hunt for Doshagma. But don’t stop there; there’s plenty more hunting to be done in the Windward Plains.
In OBT2, you’ll also face off against Gypceros, the cunning Bird Wyvern famous for its unique and toxic traits. Plus, it’s your first chance to encounter Arkveld in an advanced quest—definitely a challenge for seasoned hunters.
The Training Area returns for OBT2, providing a space to refine your skills with various weapons. Remember, this beta version won’t reflect all the final tuning and balance adjustments planned for the game’s full release.
Enhancements abound in this beta: Create Private Lobbies for a focused group or tackle Online Single Player mode with an SOS Flare option for impromptu multiplayer action. Whether you missed the first beta or crave to clash with new beasts, OBT2 welcomes you! It’s open to all PS5 players with a PlayStation Network account, subscription or not.
Participants receive a Felyne pendant and a Bonus Item pack upon the game’s full launch. Already play the first beta? You’re good to go for these rewards. Note that while OBT2 is not PS5 Pro Enhanced, Monster Hunter Wilds will include these features post-launch with a day one patch.
Carry your characters from both beta tests into the final game, though some recipe values may see minor changes. We’re nearing the finish line—Monster Hunter Wilds hits shelves on February 28. Thank you for your enduring support, hunters. The Forbidden Lands await!
For those who’ve pre-purchased the game from PlayStation Store, pre-loading begins 48 hours before its release so you can jump right into the action without delay. Happy hunting!
