Guangyun Chen, the creative director, recently announced some exciting changes for Marvel Rivals in a video update. The game will soon see monthly additions of new heroes, thanks to a shift in its seasonal structure.
Starting with the third season, each Marvel Rivals season will now be just two months long, instead of three. This change means players can look forward to a fresh hero at both the start and midpoint of the season.
“Through careful analysis and discussion within our team, we’ve decided to switch to a two-month season format,” Chen explained. “We’ll introduce a new hero each month with this setup.”
With this new timetable, adjustments will be made to the rate at which in-game currency is earned, as well as to how cosmetics on the battle pass are unlocked. Chen has assured fans that these details will be clarified before season 3 kicks off, expected to begin in early July.
Marvel Rivals is speeding up its hero releases significantly compared to Overwatch 2, one of its main competitors. While Overwatch 2 unveils new heroes roughly twice a year and plans to release the character Freja soon, Marvel Rivals is aiming for a much faster pace. Season 1 managed to introduce all four Fantastic Four members, but that was a unique case. Moving forward, players can anticipate a duo of new heroes each season.
Emma Frost is set to make her entrance on April 11, marking the start of season 2. She’ll be joined by Ultron in the midseason update in June. Alongside these new characters, players can expect to see new team-up abilities, the option to gift cosmetics to others, recolored versions of popular skins, and several balance tweaks in the upcoming season.
