As we roll into February 2025, traditionally a quiet month for major video game releases—well, at least one anticipated title has already been postponed—a fresh and intriguing option is now set to make its debut. Enter “Keep Driving,” the unique driving RPG that combines turn-based combat and item collection, promising an unusual yet entertaining gaming experience.
For those who haven’t yet stumbled upon this delightfully offbeat game, I had the opportunity to dive into its demo during the Steam Next Fest last year. It was an adventure filled with quirky challenges, and yes, I only faced defeat by a puddle once! The core of the game is a road trip to visit a friend, where both you and your car have to maneuver past the usual travel obstacles and the basic human needs for food and rest along the way.
Now, mark your calendars because the complete version of “Keep Driving” is set to hit the road on February 6, arriving on PC through Steam. Swedish game developer YCJY Games shared this exciting news on Twitter, and with it came a brand new trailer. The footage highlights some amusing turn-based battles against tractors, sheep, and even potholes. Plus, it teases the additional vehicles you can upgrade to, ensuring you and any hitchhikers you pick up are well-equipped to survive your journey. Although I have a soft spot for the demo’s not-quite-Volvo, I must admit there’s something oddly appealing about tearing through the landscape in a trusty pickup truck—channeling my inner Johnny Cash.
And just to share some extra tidbits, “Keep Driving” is currently slated for PC release only. However, one of the game’s developers recently hinted at a console version being in the works, though they’re still uncertain about which ones specifically, aside from the Nintendo Switch. Cue my dreams of a PS2 port, so I can seamlessly switch between this gem and a classic like Need For Speed Underground.
Until then, here’s to hoping that the full release of “Keep Driving” will magnify the enjoyment and quirky charm that had me captivated the first time around.
