ILM and Lucasfilm have shared some exciting news about their upcoming project: a new Star Wars game titled Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. This immersive experience is set to launch exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets, and the game’s narrative will unfold during the era of the Han Solo prequel movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Details are still under wraps, but one intriguing aspect is the potential inclusion of podracing adventures. Players will have the chance to interact with podracer Volo Bolus and team up with the iconic pilot Sebulba, promising thrilling, engine-roaring gameplay in a mixed reality setting.
Given the name ‘Playset,’ fans can expect a variety of mixed reality mini-games, though ILM has not confirmed the specifics just yet. As is customary with ILM’s strategy, they keep excitement brewing with periodic and gradual revelations about their experiences, characters, and game elements. The exact release date remains a mystery, and we have yet to see a trailer.
More insights are expected soon, especially with a grand reveal planned at the Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo, happening from April 18th to 20th. Attendees will be among the first to get a hands-on experience with the game. The event will also showcase demos of ILM’s earlier VR creations, including Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, across more than a dozen demo stations.
Diving into mixed reality offers a fresh way to engage with the Star Wars universe. According to Jose Perez III, the director of Star Wars: Beyond Victory, mixed reality technology grants an unprecedented level of immersion, bringing the expansive Star Wars universe into players’ homes in a novel way. Behind this ambitious endeavor is Meta, evidently providing substantial support, continuing its collaborative history with ILM’s ventures into Star Wars VR experiences.
