Exciting transformations are underway at Disney World in Florida. The popular Muppets attraction, a favorite among visitors, is set to close its doors to make way for a fresh Monsters, Inc.-themed section and ride. Unfortunately, it’s not great news for Aerosmith enthusiasts either.
In late November, Disney put an end to the circulating online speculation by officially announcing the closure plans for the Muppet Courtyard and the Muppet*Vision 3D attraction, both of which have been staples of Hollywood Studios in Disney World Orlando since 1991.
“Yes, guests will soon be able to dive into the whimsical world of Monsters, Inc.,” Disney enthusiastically shared about the new addition to the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The reimagined area, inspired by the beloved Pixar series that kicked off in 2001, promises a thrilling new roller coaster replicating the iconic closet door vault scene from the original film. Alongside the ride, visitors can look forward to new dining and retail experiences, as well as an engaging theater show.
In the blog post revealing these changes, Disney reassured fans that they’re actively exploring ways to “preserve the [Muppet*Vision 3D] film” along with other elements from the show, ensuring fans can continue to enjoy their favorite Muppet moments in the future.
Meanwhile, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the gang are set to make a move to Sunset Boulevard. Here’s the twist: the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which has entertained thrill seekers since 1999, will undergo a Muppets-themed makeover, waving goodbye to its longtime partnership with Aerosmith. While Disney mentioned that “music’s biggest stars” will join forces with the Muppets, they’ve left us guessing on the specifics.
As with any Disney Park update, reactions are mixed. Some are buzzing with excitement, while many long-time fans lament the loss of park classics being swapped for newer, movie-centric attractions. For instance, in August 2024, Disney also disclosed plans to bid farewell to the Rivers of America, making room for a brand new Cars-themed area and ride.
Although the Muppet*Vision 3D attraction won’t close immediately, Disney assures fans there will be ample time to bid their farewells. However, they’ve yet to announce when the beloved attraction will shut down or when the new Monsters, Inc. area will officially debut.
