Last Thursday saw an unexpected surge in orders for the Bigscreen Beyond 2, with the company’s latest PC VR headset quickly surpassing its predecessor’s sales. Within just one day, this sleek and lightweight headset managed to outsell the original’s total sales from the first six months, leaving the Bigscreen team pleasantly surprised.
In terms of statistics, the initial announcement of Beyond 2 orders brought some jaw-dropping numbers to light. Merely 25 minutes after launch, sales of Beyond 2 had already eclipsed those of Beyond 1’s entire first day. By the end of the first hour, Beyond 2 had achieved double the sales of Beyond 1’s launch day. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, within just 10 hours, Beyond 2 sales surpassed everything achieved in the first four months of Beyond 1.
Darshan Shankar, the founder and CEO of Bigscreen, disclosed the most striking statistic in a social media update on Friday. He noted, “In the opening 24 hours, Beyond 2 sold 10 times as many units as Beyond 1 did on its launch day two years ago. In just one day, it matched the first six months of Beyond 1’s sales. That’s truly remarkable.”
Interestingly, Shankar pointed out that this success came without any advertising expenses. “We didn’t rely on influencer endorsements or shell out for costly video production. No advertising was involved,” he remarked.
The company did, however, opt to share a handful of Beyond 2 units with select reviewers, reportedly around 10, and this group featured names like Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy.
If you haven’t caught up with the latest, the Beyond 2 comes in two variants: the eye-tracking feature-rich Beyond 2e, and the standard Beyond 2, priced at $1,019 and $1,219 respectively. While both models sport the same dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays as the original, the real game-changer lies in its upgraded field-of-view and sharper clarity owing to a revamped pancake lens design. The device now offers a 116-degree diagonal FOV, up from the original’s 102 degrees, and features an adjustable IPD mechanism, while still maintaining a lighter 107g frame.
Initial orders were set to ship in April for Beyond 2 and May for Beyond 2e. However, with the overwhelming demand, new orders for both models are currently slated for delivery in June.
