Gaijin Entertainment, the creative force behind the popular game War Thunder from 2013, is gearing up to release its next big thing in the realm of VR aerial combat: Aces of Thunder is set to soar onto PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets at some point this year.
The buzz around Aces of Thunder began back in 2023, with initial plans aiming for a launch in the last quarter of 2024. This game promises to deliver a stunning array of some of the most famous World War aircrafts to platforms like SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Up until now, Gaijin has showcased an impressive lineup of aircraft from the World War II era. But that’s not all—they are taking it a step further by throwing in a selection of planes from World War I as well.
Among these classic fighters are legends such as the Fokker Dr.I, famously piloted by the Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, which counted René Fonck, the highest-scoring ace of the Allies, among its pilots. These planes are set to feature meticulously crafted cockpits, historically precise weaponry, and realistic flight dynamics, promising gamers an immersive experience like no other.
In addition to these iconic World War I planes, Aces of Thunder will also include a fleet from the World War II era. Players can look forward to flying the American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra, the German Bf 109 and Fw 190, the Soviet IL-2 attack aircraft, the classic British Spitfire, and the Japanese A6M3 Zero.
While a specific release date for Aces of Thunder hasn’t been nailed down yet, Gaijin has hinted to Road to VR that we might be looking at a 2025 launch. Until then, eager fans can add the game to their wishlists both on Steam and in the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
As for the price tag, that’s still under wraps. But rest assured, we’re keenly watching the horizon for any fresh updates on Aces of Thunder.
