Many of the legendary maps from Counter-Strike have already made a stunning comeback in CS2, yet one beloved battleground had been notably absent. Fortunately, thanks to one of its original masterminds, it has made a triumphant return to the tactical shooter. From the talented hands of Shawn ‘FMPONE’ Snelling, an updated version of the revered Cache is now ready for action in Counter-Strike 2.
Since Valve transitioned from CS:GO to CS2, they’ve been gradually rolling out revamped versions of maps that fans adore. Recently, Train rejoined the ranks alongside Dust 2, Ancient, and Mirage. Now, Cache—nestled in the shadow of Ukraine’s iconic Chernobyl power plant—has made its unofficial debut. This was possible through FMPONE’s glorious reimagining available on the Steam Workshop, given his enduring role as the original mapper and guardian of Cache from its CS:GO days.
Considering Cache’s fame as a custom map in CS:GO and its later endorsement by Valve, it’s not far-fetched to anticipate its swift induction into CS2’s official pool of competitive maps soon.
The newly polished and vivid rendition of Cache is a visual feast to behold; however, an omission hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Counter-Strike esports community. The famed s1mple graffiti, a tribute to Oleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyljev’s legendary no-scope AWP double kill at ESL One Cologne in 2016, is missing. The graffiti was originally integrated by FMPONE following that unforgettable tournament moment. While it’s currently absent from CS2, should Valve formally incorporate the map, we might see its return. For now, the space remains an unadorned stretch of brick.
To explore Cache’s rebirth in CS2, you can snag the map from FMPONE’s Steam Workshop page.
