Exciting news for retro gaming fans! A new console that supports the classic PlayStation One is about to hit the market, inspired by the MiSTer FPGA open-source project. The SuperStation One, as revealed by popular YouTuber and Bluesky user Taki Udon, will be available soon on the Retro Remake website for a price of $149. Alongside it, the SuperDock—a nod to the nostalgic PSone Combo pack—is also available for pre-order, currently priced at $5, though it’s expected to retail for $35.
This blast from the past plays PlayStation One games in their original form, eliminating the need for emulation and its associated complexities. As if that’s not enough, it also supports original PlayStation One memory cards and controllers, which means your beloved old accessories have a new lease on life. Connecting is a breeze, too, as the console boasts both analog and digital outputs. Whether you’re pairing it with a vintage 13-inch CRT monitor or the latest 85-inch OLED TV, you’re covered. Plus, you’ll find modern conveniences like NFC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
Taki Udon also highlighted that while disc support isn’t visible in the initial images, it will be featured with the SuperDock. Not only does it let you relive your PlayStation One gaming library, but it also equips you with four USB-A ports and a 2280 m.2 SSD bay for expanding memory.
For many millennials and the younger Gen X crowd who have cherished memories of these systems, this retro console may be a must-buy. But it’s not just for the nostalgic—it’s a perfect vehicle to introduce these classic games to newer generations, potentially inspiring future preservation efforts for our digital heritage.
Keen to dive back into your favorite games or share them with your kids? At $149 for the console, it’s an appealing deal. Bear in mind, though, that controllers and memory cards aren’t included, so you’ll need your own or buy them separately. If you want the full experience with CD support and additional memory, you’ll need to invest in the $35 dock.
In total, you’ll be looking at about $184. Factor in some bargain retro controllers and accessories, and you’re looking at around $250 for the complete PlayStation One experience. And if you’ve got a bit of extra cash to splash, why not seek out a working 43-inch CRT TV to complete your retro setup?
