2XKO has decided to introduce an offline mode where all champions will be accessible right from the get-go. This move aims to simplify life for grassroots tournament organizers who often grapple with the hassle of unlocking champions across multiple accounts.
The news came during a community tour in France, where Tom Cannon, the executive producer of 2XKO, shared this update in a lively Q&A session. Initially hesitant, Cannon eventually decided to reveal the feature, much to the audience’s delight.
Organizing tournaments can be daunting, especially when setting up several gaming stations. Cannon’s team wants to eliminate unnecessary obstacles by enabling offline play without the internet, eliminating the need for extensive unlocking.
“We understand organizing tournaments can be challenging,” Cannon said. “Our goal is to make your life easier. While you might miss out on unlocking skins and additional content, you can still host offline tournaments with all champs available—that’s what we want.”
For tournament organizers who prioritize competition, this is a game-changer. An online-only model could pose significant challenges, primarily if stable internet access isn’t available on-site. Additionally, repeatedly unlocking characters across several systems can be burdensome.
However, questions remain about how this offline mode will work alongside Riot Games’ Vanguard Anti-Cheat, which requires continuous online activity. Since Vanguard starts with system boot-up, the offline concept could challenge its requirement if accessed via the Riot Games launcher.
At this point, Riot Games hasn’t responded to inquiries for clarification on this matter. Nevertheless, this is a promising development for players who love participating in real-life competitions.
That said, temper your expectations if you’re a casual player. This feature might be exclusive to official tournament organizers to balance the game’s revenue model. 2XKO, being free-to-play, relies on in-game purchases, so such a feature will likely be limited.
