Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy has been making waves among gamers due to its thrilling activities, new weapons, and an intriguing storyline that delves into the supposed death of Eris Morn and the chaos that follows. The introduction of The Nether activity demonstrated the potential of roguelike elements within the game. Although not everyone was thrilled with the “health as currency” aspect, it showcases Bungie’s ability to innovate for future updates. Then there’s the refreshing Court of Blades, which stands out from The Nether by challenging players to take on a series of formidable foes while enjoying new boosts. However, it also highlights a significant issue with Destiny 2’s loot system.
As we look forward to Destiny 2’s upcoming Frontiers, which promises to shake up the game with a new armor system and a shift away from yearly expansions in favor of smaller, more frequent releases, there’s hope that it could address some of these long-standing concerns. The problem with loot distribution remains a pressing concern; players often find their efforts unrewarded. While crafting weapons seems to be a fading feature, Court of Blades serves as a stark reminder of this issue.
The Court of Blades conceptually sounds exciting—battling a succession of enemies, enhancing builds temporarily, and earning some enticing loot. The loot, ideally, becomes more rewarding the more bosses you defeat, with the promise of the best spoils reserved for those tackling Expert mode. This tougher challenge is meant to earn you the coveted “shiny” Heresy seasonal weapons—versions with additional perks and traits. Despite their potential value, completing Expert mode doesn’t assure you of an Adept weapon drop, even after conquering all bosses.
This loot dilemma isn’t new to Destiny 2 players who have long voiced their frustrations over not receiving appropriate rewards for their investment of time. With The Nether already drawing criticism for its lack of guaranteed Adept drops, the expectation was for Bungie to learn and adapt for subsequent seasons. Unfortunately, for Court of Blades, the Expert mode benefits feel scant.
Securing Adept God Rolls in Destiny 2’s Court of Blades proves to be a real challenge. Players must not only hope RNG is on their side for an Adept weapon drop but also cross their fingers that it comes with the ideal perks. After several Expert runs, one might complete numerous additional attempts on Normal. Despite the allure of Adept weapons, particularly if enhancements are possible, the current state of Court of Blades and similar activities suggests they aren’t worth the farming effort. This is a concern Destiny 2’s upcoming Frontiers update should aim to resolve sooner rather than later.
