Today, People Can Fly and Sony Interactive Entertainment took the wraps off a thrilling new project, currently going by the code name “Project Delta.” Although the specifics about what this game entails remain under wraps, die-hard PlayStation enthusiasts have already begun speculating. Many are crossing their fingers for a revival of the beloved SOCOM series.
The news hit the gaming community with a splash, thanks in part to a sharp-eyed Reddit user from the PS5 subreddit. People Can Fly, a Polish developer known for their impressive track record with shooters like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, is teaming up with Sony to create a fresh title based on one of Sony’s existing IPs. This heap of information has led fans to dream about which game could be back in action, with SOCOM, Killzone, Resistance, and Warhawk topping the wish list.
Some Redditors have confidently thrown SOCOM or Killzone into the ring, given People Can Fly’s shooter-based portfolio. One gaming fan noted, “Has to be either SOCOM or Killzone since this company mostly makes shooters,” while another added, “Resistance as well is a good guess.”
Warhawk, a game heralded as having “Fortnite potential before Fortnite,” also has its share of supporters. One optimist chimed in, “Wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot of Warhawk. Sony just kinda failed to really capitalize on it.”
On the other end of the speculation spectrum, some are fervently hoping for a rebirth of Resistance. “Please God, let it be Resistance,” one Redditor passionately declared.
In the midst of all this conjecture, no one really knows for sure what to expect. Who knows, it could end up being a twist with a third-person shooter starring Knack. One thing is for sure—we’re in for a long wait to find out.
For those not steeped in PlayStation history, SOCOM was a groundbreaking tactical shooter series that graced the PS2, PS3, and PSP platforms. SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, which released in 2011, marked the last chapter of the franchise. Reception at launch was a mixed bag, with Metacritic scores averaging around 67 from 64 critic reviews. Since then, the series has remained in hibernation, but perhaps not for much longer.
