When “Seekers of Eternity,” the highly-anticipated 7.2 update for Final Fantasy 14, debuts on March 25, players can look forward to the host of thrilling content that Square Enix consistently delivers. Beyond the usual excitement around new dungeons, gear, and side quests detailed in the patch notes, there are some notable quality-of-life improvements that are set to enhance how players explore the game’s vast world.
In an early morning broadcast on March 14, producers Naoki Yoshida and Toshio Murouchi revealed two exciting changes coming to sprinting and mounting — as translated and shared by the game’s dedicated community. Once the sprint buff expires, instead of dropping back to a normal walking pace, your character will now shift into a jog. This jog is a comfortable middle ground between sprinting and walking, making it perfect for those peaceful safe zones like cities and sanctuaries where combat isn’t a concern.
Additionally, getting onto your mount will become a smoother experience — no more standing still awkwardly as you wait for the action to complete. Picture it like hitting a series of green lights on a long drive versus the frustrating stop-and-go at every red light. The latter may not be life-threatening, but it’s certainly less enjoyable.
Yoshida jokingly said, “It only took us 10 years, but we’ve all got a decade of muscle memory to unwind.” It’s a change that might take a little adjustment, but it’s certainly worth it.
And there’s more exciting news: On April 22, the game will introduce a brand-new mode called Cosmic Exploration, complete with a never-ending sprint capability. While the previous Island Sanctuary mode from update 6.2 offered an “isle sprint” with a short cooldown, the Cosmic Exploration mode’s sprint stays active indefinitely, allowing for seamless travel from one objective to the next without the hassle of reapplying a speed boost.
“We’re calling it Cosmo Sprint,” Yoshida mentioned.
Although Square Enix hasn’t released the full details of update 7.2 in English yet, the Japanese-exclusive broadcast offered plenty of teasers. If you’re curious and want to dive into what was discussed, checking out the community translations is highly recommended.
