Today, during the VR Games Showcase, the news we’ve been eagerly anticipating finally dropped: Patient 8 Games announced that their much-awaited sci-fi action horror game, Memoreum, will be landing on the Quest this September.
Patient 8 Games has made quite a name for itself, particularly with their popular Half-Life: Alyx modification, ‘Return to Rapture’, which cleverly blended the eerie atmosphere of Bioshock with the intense world of Half-Life. It’s an experience that left fans craving more.
When whispers first began about the studio’s ambitious plan to bring the essence of Dead Space into the Half-Life universe, excitement was palpable. However, they surprised us all by pivoting and deciding to launch a standalone game built using Unity. That project evolved into what we now know as Memoreum, and we’ve been following its development with bated breath ever since.
Marking Patient 8’s first full-fledged VR creation, Memoreum places players in the boots of Dr. Otto Hudson. Your mission? To illuminate the enigma of the Ichor Infection that’s taken a grim hold over the last surviving ship of humanity.
Here’s the vivid picture painted by the studio:
“The year is 2311. Imagine being jolted awake from your stasis pod only to find yourself amidst a ship that’s transformed into a nightmarish version of its former self. The crew? Mere shadows of humanity. Your salvation lies in a mysterious, distorted voice guiding you through the darkness. Is this the real deal, or just a chilling manifestation of the madness?”
As you navigate this perilous world, you’ll need to gear up with distinct, formidable weapons and face the ever-evolving terrors spawned by the Ichor Infection. Resourcefulness is key as you scavenge to keep going, but remember: the infected aren’t static. They’re changing and adapting as quickly as you do.
Initially, Memoreum will be rolled out for the Quest 2 and newer systems this September. But don’t fret if you’re on another platform—Patient 8 has plans to expand to PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets soon after. While you wait, feel free to add the game to your Quest wishlist and prepare for the adventure ahead.
