The indie games newsletter, Pantaloon, is expanding its horizons with the launch of its own publishing label. This exciting venture is kicking off with two unique titles: the narrative-driven game Sub-Verge and the intriguing Solitaire project, Occlude. Until now, Pantaloon has been a valuable resource and newsletter for indie developers, boasting a subscriber base of nearly 30,000 enthusiasts.
Founder Jamin Smith shared some candid thoughts, expressing, “The last thing the world probably needs is another indie publisher.” However, Pantaloon is looking to redefine the concept entirely. Leveraging their established platform, they aim to offer developers something different—terms that ensure both creative freedom and security. Their mission is to embrace the unconventional, eagerly backing games that dare to explore new and uncertain territories.
The motto “A home for misfits” emphasizes more than just their approach; it’s a rallying cry for projects that defy the norms of traditional publishing.
(For transparency, it’s worth noting that I, Alex Calvin, am a freelance writer and photographer who has collaborated with Pantaloon previously.)
