Firaxis Games is set to enhance Civilization 7 with a series of updates throughout March 2025. After listening to players’ feedback from its early-access phase last month, the developer aims to refine the gameplay experience with valuable content and fixes.
Civilization 7, marking the franchise’s return after nearly ten years, made a splash upon release. It drew over 80,000 players on Steam alone shortly after its launch on February 11. While many critics were kind to the game, some players, particularly those on Steam, voiced dissatisfaction with its initial state. This mixed reception has left Civilization 7 with only half of its 25,000-plus reviews being positive. Despite this, Firaxis is committed to addressing these concerns and rolled out a significant update on day one to mitigate initial issues.
In a recent reveal, Firaxis outlined its plans for upcoming updates in March and beyond. Kicking off with Update 1.1.0 on March 4, the game will receive several user interface improvements, addressing a common complaint in online reviews. This update is also set to introduce exciting new content, such as the Bermuda Triangle as a fresh natural wonder, tweak the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions, and fix a variety of multiplayer issues. Notably, crossplay between consoles and PCs will return, having been temporarily disabled for a more streamlined patch process for the PC version. However, the eagerly anticipated Natural Wonder Battle event will be delayed to allow the team to prioritize these crucial improvements.
Later, the 1.1.1 update on March 25 will bring further enhancements. Players can look forward to a Quick Move function, more customization options, including the ability to rename commanders and cities, and the introduction of Mount Everest as another natural wonder. This update will also continue refining the UI experience. While the first March update unlocks part of the premium Crossroads of the World Collection DLC, the latter will complete the package.
Looking forward, Firaxis is exploring the introduction of new resource types, research queueing, better multiplayer functionality, modding support, and more. This ongoing dedication to updates shows a promising path for Civilization 7’s growth. Only time will tell if these efforts will ultimately sway the opinion of those players unsettled by the game’s initial release state.
