If you’re familiar with the Metro series, you’ll be interested to know that the Ukrainian arm of its developer, 4A Games, now goes by a fresh moniker: Reburn.
According to a Polygon report, Reburn is diving into a new project—a sci-fi shooter with a strong narrative focus titled La Quimera. What’s particularly noteworthy is that this new intellectual property will be self-published, marking an exciting chapter for the team.
4A Games originally set up shop in Kyiv back in 2006, founded by a group of seasoned developers from the Stalker franchise’s GSC Game World. However, eight years down the line, they moved their headquarters to Malta subsequent to Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
CEO Dmytro Lymar shed some light on the name change, explaining, “We thought it made sense to keep the Metro series as it is, while crafting a new brand for this new intellectual property.” He went on to say, “Reburn was our pick, and a fantastic creative agency here in Kyiv helped us zero in on it. The name, while meaning ‘burning again,’ evokes a sense of rebirth or transformation in our hearts. With this new identity, we’re creating a fresh game with its own IP, all while holding onto our core values—making games we’re passionate about and welcoming ideas from every team member.”
Meanwhile, over on social media, 4A Games cleared the air, asserting that the main company hasn’t changed its brand identity. They took a moment to congratulate the Reburn team on this exciting venture.
“For the record, we’re still the same company you know and love,” stated the studio. “The original founders and the creative force behind the Metro series are very much dedicated to the next installment, working from our bases in Ukraine, Malta, and remotely. We’re also still plugging away on another new IP, as we’ve mentioned in previous updates.”
So, while Reburn steps into a new era with La Quimera, 4A Games continues on its well-trodden path, full of promise and innovation.
