Sony’s recent announcement that a PS5 remaster of Days Gone is in the works sparked quite a buzz last week. However, there’s a small hiccup for those who own the game through PlayStation Plus.
At some point, when exactly I can’t recall, Sony bundled Days Gone as one of the free monthly selections for PS Plus subscribers. So, if you grabbed it then, it should be lounging somewhere in your library. Naturally, those of us who snagged it for free were thrilled to hear about the upcoming PS5 remaster. The sweetest part? If you have the PS4 version, it’s just a $10 upgrade to experience it on the new console. But here’s the catch: this upgrade option only applies to those who bought the game, not the ones who redeemed it via PS Plus.
This little detail was tucked away in the fine print of a post by Bend Studio, which explained the remaster upgrade process, stating, “PS4 game redemptions via PlayStation Plus are not eligible for upgrade.” It’s a curious decision, especially considering there might be plenty of gamers willing to shell out that extra 10 bucks. Perhaps Sony calculated they’d earn more from entirely new purchases of the remaster.
Days Gone originally debuted on PS4 back in 2019. While it didn’t exactly wow critics, with reviews being mostly average, it seemed to perform adequately in sales. Sadly, we’re not getting a sequel, as Bend Studio already confirmed last year. They pivoted to announce a movie adaptation in 2022, but with scant information since, this remaster might just be the franchise’s swan song.
Mark your calendars—Days Gone Remastered is set to release on April 25, available on both PS5 and PC.
