Ancient Dungeon VR, a standout rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has just updated its offering on PSVR 2 to include an exciting multiplayer co-op mode.
When it first emerged in 2021 via Steam Early Access and App Lab for Quest (which has since been phased out), Ancient Dungeon VR was crafted for solo adventurers. Players delved into intricate dungeons, spending over 20 hours honing their skills in physics-based battles against pixelated wizards, skeletons, and other foes reminiscent of classic Dungeons & Dragons.
Fast forward to the middle of 2024, and both the Quest and SteamVR versions were graced with a four-player co-op feature. However, at that time, PSVR 2 players were left without this update when the game debuted on their platform in December 2023.
Now, fans of the PSVR 2 can rejoice. Eric Thullen, the game’s developer, has unveiled the much-anticipated multiplayer feature, inviting up to four players to collaborate through the game’s procedurally-generated dungeons, taking on all manner of traps and enemies together.
In a recent Reddit Q&A, Thullen addressed the community, mentioning that cross-play is not yet available across the different platforms. However, he assured fans that cross-play functionality with Quest and PC VR is on the horizon.
Ancient Dungeon VR is among VR’s indie triumph stories, initially gaining momentum with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020. The game soon launched a highly praised beta that collected over 1,000 enthusiastic reviews, boasting a score of 4.8 out of 5.
Nearly five years on, the game continues to evolve with regular updates, introducing new weapons, cosmetics, insight upgrades, dungeon levels, and relics. These enhancements are part of Thullen and his team’s roadmap leading up to the much-anticipated version 1.0 release, which, according to a Steam update, is “still a ways to go.”
Players can access Ancient Dungeon VR on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, all available at a price of $20.
