Another game seems set for the chopping block, this time from PlatinumGames. We’re talking about Project G.G., a title with an Ultra Man vibe that was always shrouded in mystery.
Remember Project G.G.? No worries if it’s slipped your mind! Announced back in 2020, the game quickly disappeared into the ether. Adding to the intrigue, Hideki Kamiya, the brain behind it and a co-founder of PlatinumGames, bid farewell to the studio in late 2023. Naturally, this left everyone wondering if Project G.G. was destined to remain a pipe dream. And now, the answer seems to be a resounding “yes.” If you check out PlatinumGames’ website today, you’ll find a lineup of ten games, with familiar names like the Bayonetta series, Nier: Automata, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and the latest buzz, Ninja Gaiden 4.
What’s interesting, though, is a quick trip down memory lane using the Wayback Machine shows that their roster once boasted 22 games. This includes not just standouts like Madworld or the infamous Babylon’s Fall, but also licensed hits such as Transformers: Devastation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and The Legend of Korra. These still have dedicated pages, despite being scrubbed from the main list (shoutout to Eurogamer for the scoop). Project G.G., however, offers no trace of its former self; its page simply vanishes into PlatinumGames’ homepage now.
This all but seals the fate of Project G.G., an expectation set once Kamiya exited the building. It’s been a murky period figuring out what exactly PlatinumGames has been up to, especially amid reports of staff jumping ship. Yet, the announcement of the new Ninja Gaiden title at least throws some light on their path ahead, suggesting there’s more to come.
