SNEG has announced that Captain Blood is finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch, and fans have been eagerly waiting for this moment. Originally planned for the Xbox 360 platform back in 2010, the game’s release met with several hurdles after the publisher went out of business, and legal issues kept the developers from launching it on their own. Fast forward 15 years, and those barriers have finally been overcome.

In this swashbuckling adventure, you find yourself in the boots of Captain Blood when the daughter of a local magistrate is kidnapped. Swallowing his pride, the magistrate enlists your help to rescue her. You’ll embody “the manliest pirate captain ever to drink grog while charming maidens across the Spanish waters,” as you embark on an action-filled journey featuring cannon blasts, pistol duels, epic sword fights, and a whole lot more pirate mischief.

Artem Shchuiko, co-founder of SNEG, paints Captain Blood as a tribute to a different era in gaming, when you could kick back and complete a fun, linear game brimming with Quick Time Events over a weekend, and still have plenty of time to argue over next-gen console specifications. “This game was born out of sheer love and passion, both from the original development crew and our dedicated team at SNEG Ltd. Players of all ages have been longing for a classic pirate adventure, and their wait is finally over,” Shchuiko shares.

The developers have eagerly highlighted several key features of the game:

– Epic Pirate Shenanigans: Step into the shoes of Captain Blood and master the art of pirate bravado on the Spanish Main, or at least put on a good show!

– Retro Gaming Vibes: Marvel at the crisp graphics reminiscent of the Xbox 360 era. Enjoy updated yet nostalgic features that gamers adored back in 2010.

– Intense Action: Engage in ferocious melee battles, proving your supremacy over rival pirates and those unwelcome landlubbers with a variety of skillful combat techniques.

– Ship Deck Brawls: Defend your ship from enemy pirates with a mix of unique moves, combos, and death-defying executions while you pulverize their ships with your mighty cannons!

– Arsenal of Awesomeness: Equip yourself with cutlasses, pistols, muskets, throwing knives, and hand bombs. And, of course, make use of those classic pirate tricks!

Mark your calendars, as Captain Blood is set to be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on May 6, 2025.

And don’t miss the Captain Blood Trailer—a glimpse of the adventure that awaits.
