The long wait is finally over as the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be unveiled this week, bringing an end to the whirlwind of rumors and leaks that have circulated for weeks.
The news comes from a credible insider, Nate, who shared insights about Nintendo’s plans during the latest episode of the Nate the Hate Podcast. According to Nate, the official reveal of the successor to the much-loved portable home console is scheduled for Thursday, January 16th.
“Right now, I can confidently say that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed this coming Thursday,” Nate stated. “It’s just a few days away from when this episode airs. I have gathered some information about what to expect, though some of the details seem a bit fragmented to me. Hopefully, things will become clearer after the reveal.”
He added that the reveal would mainly spotlight the console itself. “Don’t expect much in terms of game showcases,” he continued. “There might be a glimpse of a game running on a screen, perhaps on a TV, depending on how they present the trailer. But overall, software won’t be the main attraction. So, if you notice a lack of game footage, try not to be alarmed.”
Nate drew comparisons to the October 2016 reveal, which heavily featured games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Skyrim, NBA 2K18, and Splatoon 2, albeit without officially naming them. “This time, it probably won’t be quite as focused on games. It might be more like, ‘Here’s the system,’ ‘Here’s some functionality,’ ‘Here’s the new Joy-Con,’ plus a look at the new logo and maybe some packaging.”
Looking ahead, Nate mentioned that Nintendo plans a more game-centric showcase towards the end of February or early March. “It’ll be in this showcase where Nintendo will likely present third-party games and their own titles for the Switch 2. I just can’t imagine Nintendo debuting new hardware without at least a glimpse of a game on the screen.”
While speculation continues to buzz online, the only concrete details from Nintendo are that they aim to reveal the successor before March 2025. Additionally, they assure that the new hardware will be compatible with the original portable home console’s library.
The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is expected before March 31, 2025, with a global launch anticipated sometime in 2025.
