World of Warcraft is celebrated for its diverse landscapes, ranging from desolate deserts to verdant forests. However, some of the most captivating zones are those bustling with life, such as Suramar or Tiragarde Sound. With the launch of The War Within expansion’s initial major patch, players are introduced to Undermine, the bustling goblin capital. This vast urban hub breaks new ground with its uniqueness on Azeroth’s map.
Just this Thursday, Blizzard put out a video showcasing Undermine and what adventurers can look forward to in the goblin capital. Since their debut in 2010’s Cataclysm, goblins haven’t had much spotlight, mostly serving as comedic relief within the Horde. Back then, their starting zone was quite advanced, featuring cars, highways, and even a personal assistant for players. Unfortunately, it was annihilated by Deathwing’s emergence.
Now, with Patch 1.1 which fittingly goes by the name Undermined, some goblin groups—former foes from past updates—are aligning with Azeroth’s heroes. Thankfully, they’re ready to let bygones be bygones. So if you were the type who wreaked havoc in Booty Bay and tanked your reputation with the Blackwater cartel, don’t worry. Baron Revilgaz is not holding a grudge.
In Undermined, players can get their hands on goblin cars, which they can enhance by teaming up with goblin cartels. Blizzard is rolling out an exciting mechanic called D.R.I.V.E., short for Dynamic Revolutionary Improvements to Vehicular Experiences. These goblin rides outpace standard ground mounts and even give flying mounts a run for their money in the air. If you’ve been waiting for World of Warcraft to bring more speed thrills, this patch is your answer.
Apart from vehicular enhancements, Undermined will feature new Delves, one packed with an intriguing number of Void constructs, a fresh Arena, and a dungeon dubbed Operation Floodgate. For the raiders among us, there’s the Liberation of Undermine, a raid with eight bosses to conquer. This raid finally gives players the chance to take down Gallywix, the notorious goblin opportunist who betrayed his kin during the Cataclysm but astonishingly landed on his feet to lead the faction. True to his style, Gallywix is stashed inside a gigantic mech modeled after his own mug.
Although Blizzard has yet to lock in a release date for Undermined, it’s shaping up to be a fascinating addition to The War Within’s territories. The goblins’ colorful antics are also set to weave into the broader storyline featuring Xal’atath, promising a host of intriguing mysteries to unravel.
