Sony is making waves in the gaming world by bringing cloud streaming to its remote play device, the PlayStation Portal. This exciting development is currently in the beta phase, which means access is limited for now.
Hiromi Wakai, Sony’s VP of product management, shared the details in a post on the PlayStation Blog. The update doesn’t just focus on streaming; it also enhances the device’s audio features. As for the cloud streaming, it will be available for select PS5 games, allowing them to be experienced in a whole new way.
The beta tests include a whopping 120 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. Among these are top-notch first-party games like “Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart,” “Ghost of Tsushima,” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales,” along with popular third-party titles such as “Dave the Diver.”
Streaming quality can reach up to 1080p at 60 frames per second. However, keep in mind that this depends on both the game itself and your internet connection. On the flip side, to take advantage of this cloud streaming feature, you’ll need to be a subscriber on at least the Premium tier of PS Plus.
In general, this update appears to be a significant stride forward, aligning more with what many analysts were hoping for from the Portal. Nonetheless, it’s worth mentioning that the device is already performing well in sales, so Sony isn’t exactly in a position where they need to prove their worth here.
